Entry requirements
Holders of university degrees in education sciences, pedagogy, psychology, or related subjects.
Aims
- Know the fundamentals of human development and the characteristics of Montessori education for primary school.
- Understand the concept of Cosmic Education and the organization of the prepared environment 6-12.
- Develop observation skills and understand the key role of the adult and the assistant in the classroom.
- Learn to support children inside and outside the classroom, fostering autonomy, responsibility, and respect for the learning process.

Montessori pedagogy and its application for ages 6 to 12

60 hours: 33 synchronous hours via Zoom and 27 hours of independent work.
Schedule of synchronous sessions (33 hours):
- Introduction to Montessori pedagogy. Self-construction and the theory of human development. The needs and trends for self-development. The characteristics of the Montessori approach and the prepared environment at each stage of development.
- The second stage of development. Cosmic Education. The environment prepared for 6-12. How the educational approach to children from 6 to 12 years old is specified. Group work, debate and sharing of the readings carried out.
- The role of observation. Observation practice and uses of records for systematic observation.
- The great stories and the key presentations. Types of activities in geography, biology and history. Tell stories.
- Imagination and creativity. The areas of art, music and language. The environment prepared for language and the main activities. Multilingualism in the prepared environment.
- The role of the prepared adult. The management of freedom and responsibility. Adult work in the prepared environment 6-12.
- The other adults. Role of the assistant. Communication with parents. Helps children ages 6 to 12 at home and in other settings.
- Child labor. Helps with responsibility. The work diary and weekly meetings with the guide.
- The areas of mathematics and geometry, materials and prepared environment. Take care of the Montessori prepared environment.
Activities in independent work (27 hours):
- Recordings with comprehension tasks: Life and work of Dr. Montessori. Written summary. Dr. Montessori in Barcelona. The areas of Geography, Biology and History. inclusion in a Montessori environment. Montessori environments.
- Preparation of a synthesis album of the lessons received with the help of scripts.
- Readings with questionnaires by Dr. Montessori on human development and help with self-construction.
- Essays: Self-development and Montessori, Help for the stage of 6 to 12 years, cosmic education.
- Observation tasks: Introspection/simulation of observation records with a recording.
- 9 hours of guided observation with records in a Montessori environment for 6-12 year olds.

Practical aspects to help manage a prepared environment for ages 6 to 12

20 hours: 12 hours in person and 8 hours of independent work.
Program of the in-person sessions (12 hours):
- Detailed description of the prepared environment. How to handle and communicate properly in a prepared environment 6-12.
- Tips on how to approach children's work.
- The use of observation as the main tool of help – Practical aspects of going out with children
- Skills to bind and embellish works.
- Simulations and role changes in everyday situations in a 6-12 environment. Practical aids in the classroom.
- Relationships with other adults and teamwork.
- Skills for the maintenance and care of the environment.
Independent work (8 hours):
Watch recordings on evaluation and numeracy aids and the four basic operations and on evaluation and reading and writing aids. Completion of the synthesis work of the face-to-face part.

PhD in Educational Innovation and Intervention from the University of Vic (Barcelona), a researcher on the history of education and a trainer for the International Montessori Association of Montessori Guides for the age of 6 to 12 years. He has a degree in inclusive education from the University of Vic and a degree in primary education from the University of Girona. He has dedicated most of his professional life to teaching children from 6 to 12 years old. Most of these years of teaching have been done at the Montessori Palau school in Girona where he has also carried out tasks in coordination, innovation with the teaching team and parent training. He holds the AMI Montessori Guide Diploma for ages 3 to 6 and 6 to 12 years. He also has the Montessori certificate and the elderly. He has participated as a speaker in Montessori congresses, in educational gatherings, and in debates on education. In recent years he has dedicated herself to organizing and participating in courses and consultancies on Montessori education and its application in schools. He has several articles on the history of Education and Montessori in various specialized publications. He is currently dedicated to advising Montessori schools, historical research and directing university master's degrees and training courses for Montessori AMI guides.

Teaching and Assessment
Theoretical classes are combined with independent work linked to the topics covered, discussions on the assigned readings and practical sessions. The main part of the Montessori Orientation course is non-face-to-face and includes live online sessions (synchronous) and recorded videos to watch independently.
The specific part of the Montessori Assistants course incorporates a face-to-face phase, a few additional hours of asynchronous online lessons, and the elaboration of a synthesis paper.
In addition, the student will be required to independently complete nine hours of observation with children ages 6 to 12, preferably in a Montessori classroom. These observations must be made before the end of the course.
Evaluation system
Students must attend at least 90% of the hours of the course. Active participation in practical work is valued and all written work, the observation report and the album that compiles all the information and work of the course are reviewed.
